all-time favorites

here's a list of my 10 favorite films. i know it's sort of a pointless exercise to rank films because there are so many different reasons to like a film (artistic merit, humor, innovation, sentimentality, whatever) . this is not meant to be "the ten best movies of all time" list or "ten most important movies" list or anything like that, it's just a list of my personal favorites.

these are yearly lists of my 5 favorite films, compiled at the end of each year. they reflect what, at the time, i thought were the best movies of the year, so some of my choices might seem a bit dated.
